What we do
Our Department carries out studies on the faunal biodiversity of the Alpine environment and its conservation, in order to help the PAT (the Autonomous Province of Trento) to manage, value and conserve the territory with the aim of a sustainable Trentino.
Our group participates to national and international research projects in the broad field of terrestrial ecology, it conducts monitoring programs of species of conservation interest within the Natura 2000 network, and develops analytic approaches useful for a quantitative evaluation of Vertebrate communities, population dynamics and conservation status.
Through the curatorship of the scientific collections, our Department contributes to the collection and conservation of specimens that provide useful information on the past and present Alpine fauna.
Furthermore, we play an important role in raising environmental awareness in our community, especially towards the Alpine biodiversity, through educational and environmental divulgation and specific trainings.
